To see Pope John Paul II is to see Christ. I had the
fortune of covering the Pope for a week during World Youth Day in Toronto in
2002. How is it, I wondered, that a man whom they have never met could move so
many people to tears? A cult of personality alone cannot account for all the
tears I witnessed being shed in Toronto. They cannot account for the tears now
being shed both in Rome and in Churches and living rooms around the world.
